The 2013 Cityworks User Conference was held Wednesday, May 22 through Friday May 24, 2013 at the Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, Utah. Pre-conference training took place Monday, May 20 & Tuesday, May 21 at the Marriott Downtown at City Creek, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Showcasing Cityworks’ latest innovations, technology, and ideas, the Cityworks User Conference is the premier event for Cityworks users, business partners, and potential users. Those in attendance had the opportunity to participate in Cityworks technical courses, user and partner presentations, and new in 2013, the Cityworks Expo featuring Cityworks Showcase, Expo Theater, Solution Stations, and Partner Solutions Expo. The conference offered the unique opportunity of interacting with peers from around the globe, meeting with Azteca Systems’ staff face-to-face, and discussing future product direction. Pre-Conference training was available to new and existing users as well as specialized implementation training for Cityworks business partners.
“The Cityworks User Conference is the highlight of our year,” said Brian Haslam, President and CEO, Azteca Systems Inc. “Our customers and business partners from around the world gathered with our staff in an informal setting to share experiences and exchange knowledge. Moving to the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City represented a significant step for everyone, having outgrown previous facilities in Park City and in St. George, Utah. We were very excited to have a large portion of the Cityworks community at the 2013 event, which well surpassed any previous Cityworks conference.”
The move to the Salt Palace, a world-class convention center in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, proved to be popular and advantageous. Unique among major metropolitan cities, Salt Lake City combines a robust urban oasis with breathtaking vistas and easy access to a rich alpine backyard. Located minutes away from the Salt Lake International airport, downtown Salt Lake City is host to many spectacular attractions attendees of the conference were able to enjoy.
Azteca Systems honored five organizations with the distinguished Cityworks Exemplary User Award during the Plenary Session of the 2013 User Conference. Organizations recognized represent a select group of agencies that affect innovative and intelligent applications of Cityworks, further Empowering GISTM for their community.

“Each year, the Exemplary User Awards honor those extraordinary efforts and achievements from within our Cityworks user community,” said Brian L. Haslam, President and CEO of Azteca Systems. “The struggle is never in finding candidates—there are so many deserving such recognition. Those chosen truly characterize and enliven the meaning of GIS-centric in how they are Empowering GISTM for Public Asset Management, addressing the critical needs of the communities they serve.”
Informative breakout sessions hosted by Cityworks users, business partners and staff continued Wednesday afternoon, all day Thursday, and Friday morning. Conference attendees were treated to the Cityworks Expo Social Wednesday for an evening of food and entertainment featuring the Salamanders band and the Flying Aces ski and snowboard trampoline acrobatics team. During the conference business partner exhibitors showcased their services and solutions in the exhibit hall within the Cityworks Expo and were readily available to answer questions and discuss solutions. Over seventy members of Azteca Systems staff were present at the conference hosting and attending sessions, answering questions in the Cityworks Solutions Center and demo stations, and meeting with clients and partners.
